JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: Need Suggestions Regarding Finding Records for a Newly Found Fall River, MA Family #general
Linda Silverman Shefler wrote: < I was surprised to find both birth and
death records for an unnamed male NULMAN and for Schmoel NULMAN. It appears
they were twins, born 26 Jun 1912. The unnamed twin died the same day. These
twins were the babies of John and Rose (nee SAVITSKY) NULMAN of Fall River.
I was rather floored as I'd never heard of either John or Rose before. I
went looking for additional records for them on Ancestry and only found the
1940 census. Rose (1885) was a widow living with three sons: William
(1913), Benjamin (1915) and Morris (1917). They were still living in Fall
River in 1940. For the life of me I cannot find any additional records for
any of them! >
Ancestry wildcard searches turned up several Rose NULMAN listings in Fall
River MA city directories but none could have been Rose NULMAN 55 widow at
26 Plain Fall River with sons William 27, Benny 25 and Morris 23 in the 1940
census and the family was not found in earlier censuses.
One final idea solved the mystery!
Family Search Fall River MA birth records list twins "stillborn" and Schmoel
NULMAN born June 26, 1912 to parents John (occupation grocer) and Rose
SAVITSKY, both born Russia, residence 132 Flint.
An Ancestry U.S. City Directories search
< http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2469 > for John (no surname),

keyword 132 Flint (exact) listed one result in The Fall River
Directory on page 437 - NEWMAN John C grocer 127 Plain h 132 Flint.
In the 1920 census, John NEWMAN 49 (clerk-grocery store) and wife Rose 45

Benjamin 5 and Maurice 2 born Massachusetts lived at 26 Plane Street. In the
