"A galititzianer! A geshtrufter!" #galicia

Wildpom@...

This phrase is one that I hadn't heard since childhood, was basically very derogatory meaning; "A Galician! A Cursed One!"

In researching the JG Discussion Group Archives for whatever I could find on Galicia I recently came across an interesting message that was posted on July 24th, 1994 written by Asher Bar-Zev. His incredibly fascinating message presents an analysis that focuses upon the hostility and competition between Galitzianer and Litvaks at the end of the 18th century and during the 19th century.

For anyone interested in reading the above, it can found in the JewishGen Discussion Group Archives under the Subject: Galitzianer Yichus.

Looking forward to seeing our Galicia SIG [Discussion Group] develop...please, everyone let's start sending in those messages!

MODERATOR NOTE: Asher Bar-Zev is a longtime member of Gesher Galicia.
