My mother's father Samuel Rief left for America about 1912 and her
mother Tirtza died about 1918. They came >from Seduva Lithuania but the
towns of Ahbel,Lithuania,Krakes Lithuania, Ostrechan/Astrakhan, Russia
on the Volga, Antylipt and Sarotof, Russia may have some meaning to this
picture. It is a picture of the Jewish orphanage or child care school
that took in my mother and her sister and brother, schooled them, fed
them and provided shelter. This is all I know about this picture. I am
hoping someone has some clue or familiarization with this orphanage or
maybe even recognizes some faces in the picture. My mother finally felt
safe and had fond memories of this wonderful place. Prior to her being
there all she remembers is moving around the country. I'm hoping to
discover a bit more information about this period in my mother's life.
