JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen RE: Require help with ordering a death certificate from Geneva, Switzerland #general

Dear Rose:

According to my Swiss husband, official death certificates in Switzerland
are released only to family members. The authorities may provide the
general information to you but not the documentation. Either will very
likely require advance payment and the request should be written in French.

The Geneva office is:
Etat Civil
Rue de lar Mairie 37
1207 Geneve
Postfach 6327
1211 Geneve 6

That said, it's recommended you have a French-speaking colleague call the
office first to be sure this is the correct office (depending on in which
district your friend's mother died), and to determine what they will need to
process the request. The telephone/fax numbers are as follow (insert your
own access code to Switzerland):

41-22-418 66 50 (telephone)
41-22-418 66 51 (fax)

Although it's complicated, the good news is that you can expect a very quick
(and efficient) response. I hope this is of some help to you.

I've been asked to make enquiries about ordering a death certificate for a
friend's mother who died in Geneva, Switzerland 1976. Can anyone point me in
the right direction? I have the deceased's full name and date of death.
