JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Where to research in NYC? #general

Jake Jacobs

I will be visiting NYC this weekend, first time in 30 years! will have one
day free to do research and I have no idea what's available. My free day will
be Monday (Presidents' Day), don't know if that makes a difference. My
family history is Hungarian on maternal side, Polish/Lithuanian on my dad's.

Any suggestions for where to go to do a day's or half-a-day's worth of personal
family history research? sorry if question sounds ignorant, but I know next
to nothing about NYC. Thanks!

MODERATOR NOTE: There are many choices (although President's Day will likely
involve several closures). The main questions is: what information are you
seeking? Others may provide additional suggestions, but start your
search by simply going to the JewishGen Infofiles at
http://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/
Under "Libraries and Archives" one will see information about the American Jewish
Historical Society, Center for Jewish History and the New York Public Library.
There are additional options listed under "Miscellaneous" and "Vital Records."
