JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Re: Accuracy of Naturalization Records #general

In 1933 my aunt received her US passport stating she was born in New
York in 1890. This repeats the information she put on her application
form. However she was born in Russian Poland and arrived in New York
with her mother in 1892.
Apparently no one checked, and there was no letter affirming the data.

How thoroughly does the government check the information provided by
an individual seeking to become naturalized?

Rochelle in those early years the Government did not validate the
information; citizen witnesses provided validation.
