Kudos to both Barbara and Paul! - Barbara for having solved this (and I
can personally attest to her ability to find the most elusive things),
and Paul for including such a thorough account of how he became sure
that Jacob and Meyer Levine were one and the same person. I find it
especially helpful, and indeed instructive, to go through the reasoning
process that led to the breakthrough, and am always glad when people
include that.

question about my wife's maternal grandfather, Jacob LEVINE. Jacob's
Certificate of Arrival showed him arriving in New York, NY on March 16, 1909
on board the SS Ryndam under the name Meyer LEVINE. I had never been able
to find an Ellis Island passenger record for him.

Barbara found a passenger record for an Itzko LEWIN, who arrived in New
York, NY on board the Ryndam on March 16, 1910 (exactly one year after the
date shown in Jacob's Certificate of Arrival). Here's how I know Itzko and
