Can you make out and identify the town name at the end of row 26? It
seems to be something like Gekenoop. The manifest states Russia, but
Yankel Zimbol's (Jack Cimbol) naturalization lists Grodno as his place of birth.
I looked at http://www.jewishgen.org/belarus/grodno/towns.htm
and see no town the seems to match. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, Yankel Zimbol changed his surname >from ZIMBOL/CIMBOL to SILVERSTEIN
after being in the USA for many years. Are there resources available
online to find documentation on this type of change?
