JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Help finding COHEN & HAUS (HOUSE) in Russia #general

Scott Ehrlich <scott@...>

I am trying to learn about my maternal grandparents - Israel COHEN and

According to a 1920 US Census, Israel and Rose House Cohen were born in Riga.

My mom vividly recalls Rose telling her Rose was >from Minsk or Pinsk.

A 1900 ship manifest - shows Israel
and Rose (Chane on the manifest) came >from Vilna, but that appears to
be false.

Israel and Rose, and their son, David and David's wife, also Rose, are
buried near me in Massachusetts -

Israel Cohen, died 1950 at age 74 in USA
Rose/Chane/Chana Cohen died 1964 at age 83 in USA

Israel's parents, according to his US death record, were Samuel COHEN and Marcia.

Rose/Chane/Chana's parents, according to her US death record, were Melvin House
and Toba.

Israel apparently had a brother, Josef, according to the 1900 ship manifest.

Israel and Rose had a son David. He is not listed on the ship manifest and
appears to have been born in Russia.

I have searched my and jewishgen accounts but cannot find
anything on David or the marriage of Israel and Rose/Chana. I am keeping my
mind open to the myriad of spellings for Israel, Cohen, House,
Chana/Chane/Rose and David, including using the "Sounds Like" or "SoundEx"
options in my searches.

I have tested with familytreedna and none of those matches are close enough
to help me.

I am seeking documentation (or family) who might have, or can show,
documented proof of Israel and Rose' marriage (which would help show where
they were married and the spelling of Rose' given and maiden names), or even
David's birth, to also reflect his parent's details.

It would also be great to find documented proof of Israel's parents having
Israel and David as children, but that is going one generation further.

Any email addresses or web sites I can reach out to or visit in Minsk
or Pinsk or elsewhere to help with this search?

David had a social security number and I am awaiting the original application
that would have been completed by he or his parents/family through the Social
Security Administration's Freedom of Information Act Request to see what it
might reveal.

I know this post is long, but I wanted to make it as complete as possible
with all relevant details.

Thank you all for any leads.
