JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen [US] Brooklyn Eagle Expands Its Digitized Database from 1841-1955 #general

Jan Meisels Allen

For those who research Brooklyn, NY the expansion of the digitized Brooklyn
Eagle can be a goldmine! For a while the papers were only available online
through 1902 through the Brooklyn Public Library. With the expanded
digitization, the images are hosted free on Newspapers.com (owned by
Ancestry.com ). The search mechanism permits the researcher to limit the
time frame and one can search by name or subject. Be aware that the OCT is
such that the search results may return all hits for the first name or the
second name as well as the combined name-to avoid that put the full search
term in quotes. The website permits you to save or print or clip. If you
wish to clip the article you will be required to register for
Newspapers.com - it's free. To search the website go to:
http://newsstand.bklynpubliclibrary.org/ . At the top of the page there is
also "photo search" where one may search the Brooklyn Eagle photograph
collection.

Thank you to Emily Garber of (going) The Extra Yad for alerting us to this
new expansion of the digitized version of the Brooklyn Eagle.
