Dear Genners:

Bessie COOPERMAN, wife of Leib, mother of Herman, Max, Rose, Jacob, Minnie,
Rachel "Rae" and Kate/Kitty, appears in census records for Brooklyn for
1910, 1915, 1920, and 1925. Her age varies slightly and her birth would be
in the 1866-1870 timeframe in Russia (Ukraine).

I was able to obtain a death certificate for husband Leib, d. 19 Jan. 1919,
bur. Montefiore Cemetery. >from Montefiore Cemetery records online I found
Leib Cooperman bur. in Block 79, row 4, grave 2L, Chev Toimche Zduke society.

I did not have a DOD for Bessie but found a Bessie Cooperman d. 29 Dec. 1937
age 70 buried in Montefiore in block 79, row 4L, grave 1, Cong. Sons of Judah
society. Given the proximity of the two graves and Bessie's age which
yields a yr. of birth c. 1867, I assumed I had the right Bessie; so I then
ordered a search at the NYC Archives for a death certificate for 1937, only
to be told that they couldn't find her.

I then checked Brooklyn city directories on Ancestry and found her listed in
the 1933 city directory as the widow of Louis and she was living in Brooklyn
at the same address as her dtr Kitty and son-in-law Henry LYNN. (She had
been living w/ them on the 1925 NY state census but was not w/ them on the
1930 US census.)

Next I contacted the Brooklyn Public Library to see if they had Brooklyn city
directories past 1933 to confirm that Bessie was alive after the 1933
directory and her DOD might be listed. Unfortunately, they don't have later
directories.

So...how do I find Bessie's death certificate? Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
