JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen (Germany) NY Times Article on New Munich Museum:Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism #general

Munich has a new museum, The Documentation Center for the History of
National Socialism. It opened on the 70th anniversary plus one day after
the US Army marched into Munich--April 30, 1945. The permanent exhibit
follows the rise of the Nazi Party chronologically - it shows visitors the
role that Munich and its society played in creating the anti-Semitic
preachings by the Nazis. The Museum also shows the current discrimination.

Neo-Nazis demonstrated against the Museum outside of the building at its
opening last Friday. There were also anti-immigrant demonstrations in Munich
but thousands more showed up to send the alternate message of tolerance and
diversity. The article also gives the history of how Munich was the center
of the birth of the Nazi party. The Museum, ten years in the making was a
way the City of Munich confronts its past.
