JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen GOLDBERG: Need Suwalki Marriage Documenty & Mariampole Records #general

Sal & Ellen Barbieri <elsal@...>

Just contacted by a GOLDBERG researcher >from JGFF. Coincidentally, his late sister
replied to my Landsmen Family Finder ad in 1996 & we were in touch for yrs. Time to
solve this dilemma. My grt-gf Leyb/Louis Tobias GOLDBERG m. Leia Dwera KANOWICZ/
Cohn abt. 1870-71. She was b. Dec. 1854 Suwalki so m. likely in her home town. I
have their photo London 1871. His Feb 1893 NYC d. cert say age 43, in US 21 yrs. in
NYC 20 yrs., parents Joseph [Chaim Joseph] & Rachel. Don't know where he spent 1st
yr. in US.

I obtained Thomasville newspaper article >from U. of GA. film inter-library loan.
Their daughter Sadie GOLDBERG died in fire 1905 Thomasville GA while on vacation.
Neighbor Joseph GOLDBERG [grt-uncle of other researcher, son of Abraham] responded.
I have Thomasville Jewish Community History written by Ella GOLDBERG ROSENBERG,
dau of Joseph GOLDBERG. In 1905, it lists Jake GOLDBERG [grt-uncle of other
researcher] as founder of new synagogue & Mr. Joseph H. COHN of NYC, b. abt. 1832
[Sadie's gf's name] as chairman & donor. If anyone wants copy, lists families who
arrived 1875-92 with family members & type of businesses they operated: Louis
STEYERMAN, L. B. HANUA, Sam WOLF, Max ROSENBERG, Joe GOLDBERG, Archie ROSOLIO, Ben
SHOENIG, Morris WARSHAW, Simon STEYERMAN, Louis KOLESKY, Ben LUBIN, Harry FEINBERG,
A. PELTZ, Ben EGNAL, Mr. BENNETT, Mr. RUBINSTEIN, I. SHAPIRO, Jake GOLDBERG, H.
GOLDSTEIN, Mr. I. GOLDSTEIN, Jacob SILVERMAN, Ben & Louis LEWITT, Arthur STEIN, S.
ZAGER, L. BLUESTEIN, Jake LEVY, Sol ALTMAN, Billy WOLFSON, few others on list no
bio.

Does anyone have transcribed records >from Mormon film # 1,496,965 item 1-7
the Suwalki Marriage Documenty 1867-72, 1874? Is written in Cyrillic.
Looking for m. of Leyb GOLDBERG & Leia Dwera KANOWICZ 1870-71. The Documenty
m. films include b. certs >from other towns.

I know Lithuanian State Archive has vital records for Mariampole, just don't
know if all available. Many of marriages have been published in Landsmen. Births
are available for 1834-44; 1846-54 as well as other yrs. I am interested
in obtaining births of Abraham GOLDBERG abt. 1837 & Leyb GOLDBERG abt. 1845-49
so I can finally connect these 2 families.

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.
