Before I post this question on discussion boards for Warsaw or Poland,
I thought I'd ask it here.
My great grandfather, Meir Tsvi Ferszt, died in Gombin/Gabin, Poland
in 1901. He was buried, however, in Okopowa Cemetery in Warsaw.
Gombin/Gabin and Warsaw are approximately 55 miles (88 km) apart.
Although the Ferszt family appears to have gone back and forth between
Gombin/Gabin and Warsaw on multiples occasions (some of Meir's
children were born in Gombin, others in Warsaw), his 1901 death record
clearly gives a street address in Gombin.
My question is: was the transfer of bodies between locations common? I
would assume that it took at least three days to transfer the body by
horse and wagon. Any insights you might have would be much
