Seems like others are finding NJ research as challenging as
I so I'd like to share two resources I've only recently found.

FamilySearch.org has added to their NJ state census collection
over the past year or two; some are complete records, others index only.

A variety of records, including vitals, are can be ordered directly
from the NJ State Archive by mail or online. Indexes are online for
earlier periods and for those that aren't online they'll do a one or
two year search for you.
