JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Question of City Name Spelling #general

Marilyn Silva

Genners,

I am having a disagreement with a family member. I sent an updated
chart where the birth date and marriage date was listed with the city
where the event happened.

With regard to the documents I have received and have translated for
birth and marriage the city involved is spelled differently:
Kaluszyn, Kalusznic, Kaluszin. I have been listing the city with the
spelling that comes on JRI index and also on the translation.

I am being told by this relative that I should use the current modern
spelling of the name of the city on my family history. I would like
the opinion of other and more knowledgeable Genners as to what is the
proper way to list the city.
