JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Death Certificate for Etta Kaplan #general
Karen Zale
Hi,
Once again I am looking for your help.
On Jewish Data, I believe I found the tombstone of my great grandmother,
Etta Kaplan with the date of death Nov. 19, 1922 buried in Washington
Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York. Also, on Find a Grave they have listed an
Etta Kaplan 1922 but without a photo. The problem is when I called
Washington Cemetery and a nice lady said she could not find an Etta Kaplan
that sometimes people were buried with a different name than was on
their tombstone. As it happens, on the 1900 Federal Census she used the
name Etta Cohen. On the 1910 Federal Census she was listed as Sarah Levy.
I could not find her in the 1905 and 1915 New York City Census or the 1920
Federal Census. Etta never remarried and the family were not Kohen's.
Next I looked on both the Italian and German web site for the year of 1922
with the names Cohen/Cohn, Levey/Levy and Kaplan/Caplan. I am trying to
locate a death certificate number and I would appreciate any ideas in
finding her death certificate. Etta's age was listed as 87 on her tombstone.
Etta Riva Kravchenko (Ette Rime Krawezenko name on her manifest) came >from Niezhin,
Chernigov Guherni, Russan Empire, to New York City in 1899. Other members
in the family used the surname Kaplan in the USA.
Please respond privately.
Thank you,
Karen Zale
