JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Yiddish Theater Question #general

Scott D. Seligman

I am doing some research that has led me to reports in the New York World of
a play produced at the Windsor Theater on the Bowery in 1893. It was written
by Moritz Horwitz and starred David Kessler, both well-known figures in the
Yiddish theater. But all of the news reports about it refer to the
production being in German (rather than Yiddish). I'd like to ask for a show
of hands. Is there any way that that might have been true, or were the
newspapers just being careless? Feel free to reply privately.
