Jan Meisels Allen

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is holding a
webinar on Thursday, April 27 at 1:00 PM Eastern Time marking the centennial
of the United States entering World War 1. The Bureaus of Immigration and
Naturalization, which preceded the USCIS, supported the war effort in many
ways. For example on the night war was declared the immigration officers
detained German officers and crewmen >from German ships in US ports and
during the war and following armistice the Bureau of Naturalization granted
US citizenship to immigrant service members. The webinar will use primary
sources to provide an overview to the Bureaus of Immigration and
Naturalization's roles during World War 1.
