I am trying to trace any descendants of Mark EMANUEL (salesman) and
his wife, whose given name I do not know but whose parents were Simon
and Hannah LEVY, of Russell Court, Strand, London and later of Charles
Street (now Soho Street), Soho Square, London. Mark appears to have
been born around 1804, probably in London, and I have traced him up to
about 1832 in London. Around this time he had a shop in Panton Street,
off Haymarket, London. I have not been able to find any record of
Mark's marriage but he may have been a member of the Western Synagogue
in London, which his Father in Law, Simon Levy also attended.

FindMyPast has a record of an M EMANUEL (merchant) aged 30 emigrating
from London to Philadelphia in 1834, accompanied by his wife, Mary
(also aged 30), and children Abraham (3), Jonas (4), Eveline (6), John
(18 months) and William (2). Thereafter the trail goes cold. At the
moment I only have the initial "M", the surname and a similar age to
link Mark EMANUEL to this emigration record. The dates and ages of the
children are a plausible fit to a possible marriage around 1820-27

Does anyone know if any Western Synagogue records survive >from the
early part of the 19th Century and how these could be accessed? Does
anyone recognise this family and have any information about where they
may have settled in the United States and any descendants?

With thanks in anticipation.
