Jan Meisels Allen

The Jewish Genealogical Society of the Conejo Valley and Ventura County
(JGSCV) will meet Sunday, October 1 >from 1:30-3:30 pm at Temple Adat
Elohim, 2420 E Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362.

Come celebrate JGSCV's 12th anniversary!

Note: we have extended the time for the schmoozing corner to 30 minutes
and it will begin earlier at 1:00 PM

Program: Three Guides, Four Countries: A Daughter of Holocaust Survivors
Travels to Their Ancestral Villages

Join Deborah in a dynamic visual presentation as she recounts her shocking
2009 unearthing of family artifacts that compelled her to visit her
ancestral villages in Poland and Hungary as well as to northern Germany to
understand her parents' Holocaust history. The narrative of this program
serves to inspire those researchers up against all odds--few names, no
family artifacts or photographs, and no living relatives. She will review
her methodology, her trip through shtetls and concentration camps, and her
surprising and joyful discovery when she returned home.

Speaker: Deborah Long: Deborah Long has been researching her family history
and searching for surviving family members since she was a little girl --
for more than 50 years. Deborah is a professional educator and speaker,
though typically her audiences are licensed professionals who are required
to attend continuing education programs. She has written more than 20 books,
including a memoir about growing up as a child of survivors titled "First
Hitler, Then Your Father, and Now You" available at lulu.com. She is the
founder and first president of Triangle JGS in the Triangle area of North
Carolina (Chapel Hill/Durham/Raleigh).

Schmoozing Corner: Starting at 1:00PM, facilitated by JGSCV member Sonia
Hoffman. Sonia has spoken at JGSCV meetings and conferences on genealogy
and is a great resource. This is a great opportunity to ask questions to
help direct your personal genealogy.

Traveling Library: Categories A and C books will available starting at
1:00PM. To see which books that will be at the meeting, see the JGSCV
website at: www.JGSCV.org Library, traveling.

The meeting is open to the public without charge. Light refreshments will
be served in celebration of our 12th anniversary.
