Diane,

There are several different databases within the JewishGen, and all should
be visited when researching family roots.

One of the most popular records containing databases is founded by Stanley
Diamant's Jewish Records Indexing -Poland (JRI-P) located at:

http://jri-poland.org/jriplweb.htm

Enter researched by you surname "Pastevelsky" in its originally recorded
"Polish" way as Pastewelski, and select "All Regions" options.

You will see 9 (nine) records located in Piotrkow Guberniya (this is where
Lodz records are located), 1 (one) in Warsaw (for a man born in Suwalki) and
rest of the records (164) are within Suwalki Guberniya. Pastewelski records
are split between towns Bakalarzewo, Krasnopol, Lodzieje, Sejny and Suwalki.

Best
