If you are a descendant in direct line of an ancestor born in Luxembourg and
still living January 1, 1900 you may be able to recover your Luxembourg citizenship-if interested. A law was became effective January 1, 2009 that permits a person with a grandparent who had Luxembourg nationality by origin. The law requires a declaration of re-acquisition of citizenship must be made before a civil registrar by 31 December 2018. The law can be read in French or German at: http://mj.public.lu/nationalite/ There is a reprint on the law in English that can be read at: http://mj.public.lu/nationalite/nat_lux_2009_EN.pdf A person can re-acquire Luxembourg nationality provided: - he or she has a male or female ancestor, who possessed Luxembourg nationality on the date of 1 January 1900; and - he or she is the descendant in a paternal or maternal line of said grandparent. One must be able to trace back each generation in the paternal or maternal line to establish whether he or she is a descendant of a Luxembourg grandparent on January 1 1900. In addition, a certificate issued by the Ministry of Justice, Office in Charge of Luxembourg Nationality testifying that the claimant had a grandparent of Luxembourg nationality on January 1, 1900 of whom he or she is a descendent in a paternal or maternal line.
