JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Correction: (Canada) 1926 Prairie Provinces Census Online at Library of Canada and FamilySearch #general
Jan Meisels Allen
It appears that the link to the LAC is no longer working- which it was at
the time of the posting. Please try this link instead for Library and Archives Canada: http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/1926/Pages/default.aspx I apologize for any inconvenience. On February 26 I posted to the JewishGen Discussion Group about Library and Archives Canada (LAC) and FamilySearch working collaboratively published the index to the 1926 Canadian census of the Prairie Provinces: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. While Canada usually conducts a census every ten years since four years after the Confederation in 1871, due to the rapidly expanding population of the Prairie provinces a more frequent census was undertaken in 1906-in between the Canada-wide censuses- and every ten years thereafter. While the indexes are up on FamilySearch at: https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/3005862, they were not available on LAC until March. The url then included has changed. Thank you to IAJGS Records Access Alert reader, Harvey Zimberg for letting me know the original url was no longer functioning.
