According to a note written by a great uncle of mine, his mother's mother was a
descendant of Reb. Chaim of Volozhin or at least >from his extended family.
My great grandmother was Bracha SCHECHTER (KANTOR). She and her three
siblings, including well known Chaim Dov KANTOR of Moshav Shfeya,
Israel, came to Israel in the 1870s >from Pinsk. Supposedly the
connection was through Bracha's mother's mother.
My uncle also wrote that as their (I' presume that "their" means brach's maternal
grandparents) parents died at a young age, Reb' Itzaleh, Reb' Chaim of Volozhin's
son took them to their chupa(wedding canopy) . Looking through books on the
Volozhin family I find no one named or married to a KANTOR but a daughter (Married
to LANDAU) of Reb. Itzaleh did pass away leaving young unmarried orphans.
As stated above, I've seen several published tree of descendants of
Reb. Chaim. Does anyone have a more detailed listof his descendants
where a KANTOR family is mentioned?
