A number of Jews fleeing Nazi Europe were able to get to Shanghai China-at
the time that was the last place that would accept Jewish refugees. There were 18,000 such Jews in Shanghai-living in cramped quarters but with schools, cultural institutions and a social life. The Brooklyn Public Library has an exhibit, "Jewish Refugees in Shanghai" through May 10. More information about the exhibit, with photographs may be found at: https://www.bklynlibrary.org/exhibitions/jewish-refugees-shanghai-1 To read the article and see some of the photos in the exhibit go to: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/25/nyregion/jewish-refugees-shanghai.html For information about the Brooklyn Library including address and hours see their website at: https://www.bklynlibrary.org/ Thank you to Phil Goldfarb, President, JGS Tulsa for sharing the information with us.
