I recently learned of another name attached to my maternal grandfather. He
was killed in the Holocaust. I hired a researcher in Poland several weeks ago who has been doing a fabulous job. Has anyone ever heard of the name Wigdor? Is that a middle name or is it a surname?? My 2nd great grandmother was Nena Rokenmacher but on her marriage license to my great great grandfather Abram Chamita, her name appears as Nena Rokenmacher Baserrman. I learned >from my researcher and >from the documents he has obtained for me that sometimes people in Poland were born with 2 last names such as the case above with Nena and also with my daughters' paternal great great grandfather Aron J. Chil (aka Bercowicz). He actually had 2 last names on his birth certificate. I've never heard of the name Wigdor. Have you? Thank you in advance. Searching: APTEKARZ, HELFMAN, ROKENMACHER, BESERMAN, ZYMERMAN, AJCHENBLAT, CHIL, HILL, KLAJNKOFMAN, MYSZKAT Dina Hill MODERATOR NOTE: Familiarize yourself with the JewishGen Given Names database. https://www.jewishgen.org/databases/GivenNames/search.htm In this case, specify Poland as the country under the European-to-Foreign seach box. Both Wigdor and Chil may be shortened forms of first names used in Poland.
