I've run into a strange problem I've not encountered before. I've emailed a couple
of people but no-one's really any the wiser.
I'm researching a married couple who live in England. >from a search in FindMyPast I
saw they had taken two voyages >from England to New York, in 1949 and 1952. These
were the UK Outbound databases.
Then I searched for them in the NY Passenger Arrivals database, and found their
entry in 1952, but not for 1949.
I ended up scrolling through every page in the NARA microfilm (#7713) in both
Ancestry and FamilySearch, and discovered that the only pages scanned were for all
1350 crewmembers. No passengers! And this was on the Queen Elizabeth!
Has anyone ever come across something like this? As the original manifests don't
exist any more, it seems as if there is nothing else one can do. I had hoped to
learn who they might be going to.
See you in Cleveland!
