Jan Meisels Allen

Fortepan is a free online photo archive with over 114,000 photographs taken
by Hungarians between 1900 and 1990. The founder is Milos Tamasi. Included
in the photo archive are several rare Holocaust-related photos showing Carl
Lutz, the Swiss Diplomat who was responsible for saving thousands of
Hungarian Jews inside his Budapest glass factory.

Jews were prohibited >from owning cameras which explains why there are few
photos >from World War ll. Other photos were only >from the wealthy who could
afford cameras. Fortepan is encouraging donations >from all Hungarians,
including those who emigrated or forced to flee. If you wish to donate
photographs contact: fortepan@gmail.com

To access the photo archive go to: http://fortepan.hu/ You can chose
several languages including English or chose Chrome as your browser for
translation. The website states all photos can be downloaded and published
freely but to specify the source of the photos.
