JRI Poland #Poland New Krakow Project #poland

Judy Wolkovitch <judywolk@...>

As many of your know, a great new project has been initiated that will be of
interest to all Krakow researchers:

Krakow Synagogue Marriage and Bann Registers (1892 to 1939)

These contain very valuable information. The first group of approximately
2000 entries will be released in late October at which time they will be
searchable on the JRI-Poland web site. They are the marriages/banns for the
years 1892, 1897-1899, and 1901-1902. Full extracts were made for about 1400
entries to illustrate the full value of this outstanding resource. Other
years will consist of expanded indices including the father and mother's
names, mother's MAIDEN name, and town of birth. In some cases, secondary
name by which the individuals were know were also recorded and will appear
in the indices. This takes a lot of guesswork out of which records to

To date only ten people have contributed but we have raised $970, nearly one
third of the sum needed for Phase I. This represents only a small fraction
of these interested in the Krakow records and we kindly ask that those who
can please contribute so that these valuable research aids can be published
on the web.

Please help support this important project. Because the registers are not
all identical and there are no index pages, we are unable to determine the
exact cost to index the entire Krakow marriage and bann collection.
However, to launch the fundraising, we are setting a target of $3000 which
should be sufficient for approximately 25,000 entries. Future releases of
data will be related to the funds raised.

PLEASE NOTE: researchers contributing a minimum of $100 will be eligible to
receive an Excel spreadsheet with the indices to the ENTIRE collection.

Contributions should be made to Jewish Records Indexing - Poland. Please

This indexing initiative is yet another example of the power of cooperative
effort by volunteers and contributors with a common interest. Please help us
to get it completed.
