JRI Poland #Poland Terespol (Lublin) Project Underway!" #poland

Dear Fellow “Terespolers”:

We are forming a group to index all the Jewish vital records (births,
marriages, and deaths) >from Terespol >from the 19th century and add
them to the Jewish Records Indexing – Poland project’s database. The
Mormons microfilmed some of these records in the 1960’s, and other records
will have to be retrieved >from the Lublin branch of the Polish State
Archives (PSA).

Therefore we are proposing a group project which JRI-Poland calls, “The
Terespol Shtetl CO-OP Project”. Our involvement in this Terespol Shtetl
CO-OP Project would be two-fold. We need to:

a) transcribe (type) the information contained in the microfilmed indexes so
that it can be made accessible for any Terespol researcher. This requires
entering the data into an EXCEL template;

b) raise the funds to cover the costs involved in this project. The planned
expenses include: film ordering expenses, photocopying, and postage.
Projected costs are not expected to exceed $150. We have already raised $75
of this money and need your help now to raise the rest.

We are also planning a second phase, called the “Terespol PSA Project”,
which will cover the indexing of those 19th century records that were not
filmed by the Mormons. Those register indexes are already on order through
JRI-Poland and could arrive at any time within the next year >from the Lublin
PSA. Fundraising targets for this phase will be assigned when JRI-Poland
has received the pages and can better estimate the expenses.

Donations (tax deductible for US donors) can be accepted by check, VISA
or MasterCard! Please earmark your contribution for the "Terespol Shtetl
CO-OP Project". Mail checks to:

Please advise me if you are interested in assisting with transcription of
the LDS records. The more people involved, the sooner the information will
be available for all our use!

Many thanks for your help to preserve the memory of the Jews of Terespol
through funding and volunteering for this important project. I look
forward to sharing more exciting news with you soon.
