Gary Mokotoff (Optonline) <garymokotoff@...>
David Edelman asked if a child dies at a very young age, do Jews name the
very next child after the deceased child.
Jews of the mid-19th century were very superstitious. It is more likely that
the name would not be used because of the fear that the new child would
suffer the fate of the first one.
In the Mokotow family, the "founder" of the family, who was highly revered,
died in 1842. The first male child in the family to be born after the death
of the founder was named after him. Unfortunately the child died at age six
months. The name was not reused for 15 years!!
