Last month, I figured I might as well send away for my ggg-aunt's SS-5
before prices went up, and it's good that I did. Today, I recieved her SS-5
and saw that for her birth place, she wrote not just a country name, but a
town name as well! She's the only one of my relations (born out of the US,
of course) that has done this, to the best of my knowledge, and, since I had
no idea where the family was from, this is very exciting.
She names her birthplace as Rudno, Austria-Hungary, which I'm pretty sure is
now located in Slovakia. There was
another Rudno in Galicia (now in Ukraine), but based upon my ggm's treatment
of her son-in-law >from Suwalki (she always called him a "Black Jew"), and a
1908 ship manifest listing her residence as Budapest, I'm guessing that's
not the Rudno I'm looking for. (Though, of course, I could be wrong.)
Jacob HOLZMANN (1827 in A-H - 1912 in Chicago, IL) was first married to
Josephine FEIRMAN with whom he had Rose (1859 in A-H - 1945 in San Diego,
CA), Fanny (m. Ludwig WAGNER in Chicago, 1893) and Bertha, who I know
nothing about. He then remarried to Rose TROSTLER with whom he had Ella
(1882 in A-H - 1971 in Los Angeles, CA) and Margaret (1892 in Rudno, A-H -
1969 in San Diego, CA). Ella married Sam BROWN of Chicago in 1905, and
Margaret married a Hermann WILMS of San Diego County, CA in 1916.
So, I'm looking for information concerning the HOLZMANN/FEIRMAN/TROSTLER
families, as well as any information regarding Rudno, Austria-Hungary.
