Hi,
Robert Strumwasser states on Tue, 9 Aug 2005
"I recently came across the name "Szejma Zmarl" in the
1939 Census of Biala Podlaska. After searching the Given
Names DataBase (GNDB), I've concluded that "Zmarl" is
"Shmarya." Does this appear to be correct? As for
"Szejma," I'm guessing that it's "Shmuel," as
the GNDB gives one Yiddish nickname as "Shmie."
Does anyone have any different/better thoughts?"
Just yesterday I did a soundex search for my
g-g-grandmother Sima Milbauer and the names Szejma and
Szijma came up.

Shari Kantrow
