JRI Poland #Poland Re: LDS records for Tarnopol on CD #poland
Mark Halpern <willie46@...>
In his message copied below, Jurek Hirschberg shows interest in the LDS
microfilms of Tarnopol records. These microfilmed Tarnopol records are just
a part of the Jewish records >from the Ukraine State Historical Archives in
Lviv that were microfilmed by the LDS Church and made available in late
Jurek is correct in stating that JRI-Poland does NOT have a project to index
these microfilms. In late 2006, JRI-Poland did investigate the possibility
of indexing these microfilms and found that written permission was required
from the head of the Ukraine State Archives to undertake such a project. Atthat time, JRI-Poland determined that a request for permission would likely
be denied. We continue to monitor the situation concerning the Archives in
Ukraine and still believe that permission will not be granted.
JRI-Poland does provide information about this collection of LDS microfilms
at http://www.jri-poland.org/agad/lviv.htm. A detailed inventory in Excel
format (a work in progress) can viewed by clicking the "more detailed
inventory" link in the fourth paragraph.

I need to examine the LDS records for Tarnopol that come >from the Lviv
Archive. They are not part of the JRI project. Spending time at one of the
LDS Family History Centers is not practical. I wonder if anybody has managed
to obtain those records on a CD and would be interested in sharing them.
