I was able to find two of my grandfather's brothers on the Shoah list of Yad
Vashem. Both were the subject of a page of testimony by their brother,
Richard SOMMER, who emigrated to Israel and died in 1980. He also provided
pages of testimony on three siblings, Irma and George FRIED and their
sister Ida POPA. I have no idea how the FRIEDS and the SOMMER family
are related (Richard provided testimony as a relative), but I suspect
Richard's wife (if he had one) is the link.
Are there census, marriage and death records available for Israel
either online through FHL in Salt Lake City? Perhaps marriage records
for Austria in the early 1900's might be useful?
The SOMMER family migrated >from Bohemia (Caslau) in the mid 1800s
and settled in Amstetten, Austria. Ludwig was listed as residing in
Amstetten and Artur in Wieden when they were deported to Poland.
Any suggestions welcome.
