Nat Abramowitz, who died last week in New Jersey, can be credited
for important advances in Galician genealogical research. Nat was one of
the earliest researchers to bring us news that some western Galicia vital
records and other documents were held in the Lviv Archives. He met
a Ukrainian researcher who had access to the Lviv Archives. When
Nat was convinced that this researcher understood the needs of
Jewish genealogists, he announced in the Galitzianer that Alexander
Dunai was available to do research, and he provided Dunai's addresses
as well as detailed instructions for contacting him. Many genealogists
were able to make breakthroughs in their research by hiring Alex Dunai,
and it was Nat who made this possible.

Nat did extensive research in Krakow, Rzeszow and Tyczyn and other
locations, in addition to his research in Romania. He was generous
in sharing his work, and when he found my family names among
the records he obtained, he always sent me copies.
