Gesher Galicia SIG

After four years as Chair of Gesher Galicia, Tony Kahane is stepping
down >from this position in July 2019. The Board of Directors would
like to express our gratitude to Tony for his tireless efforts on
behalf of the organization. Under his leadership, we have increased
our membership, expanded the All Galicia Database to 630,000 records,
strengthened our internal structures, and forged many new
partnerships, including ones with Ukrainian and Polish archives,
museums, and academic institutions. Tony will continue to serve on the
Board of Directors of Gesher Galicia, leading our continually
expanding research initiatives.

Dr. Steven Turner, a board member, is assuming the position of
President effective July 18, 2019. He has been a member of Gesher
Galicia since 2013, and has served on the board since 2017. He is the
founder of the Nadworna Shtetl Research Group and an active
participant in other grassroots groups interested in genealogy and the
history of Galicia. He is also a member of the Jewish Genealogy
Society of Long Island and the Jewish Genealogical Society of New
York. Steven is involved in research on Ashkenazi DNA and administers
several Jewish DNA projects on FamilyTreeDNA. The Board of Directors
of Gesher Galicia welcomes Steven Turner to his new role.

For those planning to attend the annual IAJGS meeting in Cleveland,
Steven will be at the conference and looks forward to seeing many of
our members at Gesher Galicia events there, including at our luncheon,
where he will be the guest speaker.

Please look out for future announcements regarding research,
educational opportunities, and other outreach initiatives for the
benefit of our members and the genealogy community at large.
