Dear Sam and Keidan Subscribers:
The records that we have (LitvakSIG Vital Records Indexing Project) and
are getting translated, came >from the Genealogical Society of Utah (Mormons
-- LDS). They were kind enough to lend them to us so that we could make
copies of the CDs for our use.
I have already requested the Keidan records to begin translations as I
have a very good translator lined up. Thank you (Sam) for your generous
donation toward this cause. You will receive copies of the Keidan records as
soon as I get them translated.
However, this effort needs to be a group effort and not that of just one
person. We just finished translation for several towns with many records like
Keidan and it was well over $200 to translate for a town with @700 records.
Please remember that these records are availaable through the Family
History Libraries of the Mormons but they are still in old Cyrillic which not
everyone can read. I dealt with over 50 translators to find 5 who could read
this script.
I'll be happy to correspond (or speak to on the phone) with anyone who
has concerns or questions.
Kindest Regards,
Maria Krane, Outreach Coordinator
Vital Records Indexing, Lithuania
