Stuart Liss scanned a photograph of his Liskowsky relatives and also scanned
the photographer's mark. The 1921 photographer's address is
B. Blanca is Bahia Blanca, a city with 330.000 inhabitants in the South of
the Province of Buenos Aires. Bahia Blanca's port is Ingeniero White. It had
an important grain exports movement coming >from the agricultural areas
closer to Bahia Blanca than to Buenos Aires and commercial life grew based
on the agricultural trade and port movement.
These include some areas where Baron Hirsch's agricultural colonies were
established in the 1890s and also where some of the Jewish immigrants in
conflict with the local Baron Hirsch administration established other
agricultural centers such as Medanos..
People >from the colonies - including Medanos, Rivera, Bernasconi and Villa
Alba - moved to the city in the 1910s and 1920s . Some stayed, some followed
to Buenos Aires after some time changing farm life for urban life.
My white pages CD lists one Bahia Blanca phone for Bentivoglio, the very
Italian last name of the 1921 photographer. It is a 2002 lady living in a
A reverse look up for the 1921 photographer's address shows someone by other
name living there (maybe in a different apartment or in a new building in
the same place). The area in the Bahia Blanca district for this address is
Punta Alta, but this should be checked: There was also an important naval
activity in Bahia Blanca, and Brown is the name of a famous admiral in the
early 1800s in the Argentine fleet in the River Plate or Rio de la Plata.
There is a Brown street in Punta Alta (close to the naval base) and also a
probably more important Brown street downtown.
I came up with no LISKOWSKY phones in the white pages CD, but there are 29
LISCOVSKY phones including locations SE of Buenos Aires and also SE of Bahia
Hope this helps,
