Saul Issroff's recent South Africa SIG post regarding the desecration at the
Muizenberg Cemetery, South Africa, reminds us of the importance of indexing and
photographing headstones >from Jewish cemeteries around the world. This will
create a permanent virtual record of the memorials to our ancestors.
With currently over 1.2 million burial records, JewishGen's international
burial registry, JOWBR - JewishGen's Online Worldwide Burial Registry--
encourages individuals, local JGS groups, synagogue groups, and other
community or genealogical associations to index and photograph headstones in
their areas and add these records to the JOWBR database. We are happy to
add acknowledgements to volunteers and donors or add links to websites in
our Cemetery Description field when requested.
