Latin America #LatinAmerica Yizkor Book Project, January 2016 #latinamerica

Shalom,

The wheels of the Yizkor Book Project grind on relentlessly >from month to
month and in each report I am always pleased to share with you news about
the continued progress made in it over the last period. I must stress that
the achievements made each month exist, in no small manner, through the many
man (and woman) hours of volunteers who share the vision of the importance
of the YB Project and for their untiring efforts, I am humbly grateful.

At the same time, we certainly don't ignore the welcome financial support to
our Yizkor Book Translation Funds >from many of you which allow us to engage
the professional translators who are an integral part of the whole YB
Project and help move it forward. One such Translation Fund was setup over
the last month for the Thessaloniki (Salonika), Greece Yizkor Book - a
community that was such a prominent center of Sephardic Jews in Europe and
is no longer. If you feel able to assist this particular project financially
in any way, your support will go far into seeing the translation of this
book become available to the many of you with roots in this community. Links
to this and the other many Translations Funds appear at the end of this
report.

Last month, former Yizkor Book Project Manager, Joyce Field, graciously
provided us with expanded version of her paper on Yizkor books that now
appears in our Yizkor Books Insights page
http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/ybinsights.html. The paper, by-the-way,
was delivered in October 2015, in Houston, Texas, at a conference of the
World Federation of Jewish Child Survivors and Descendants and we thank
Joyce for sharing with us, this eye-opening explanation of what Yizkor books
are all about.

As in the past few years, the Yizkor Books in Print (YBIP) Project continues
ever onwards and the very dedicated team behind it, regularly adds in new
titles to its growing range of published books (now over 40 such books).
Although the translations appearing in the YB Project continue to be freely
available, the YBIP Project provides published versions of complete
translations at a modest price for those who prefer to hold the books in
their hands - books which hold so much knowledge and memories of our not so
distant past.

Book Project over January.
