My grandfather Isaak Goldmann worked first in Gorlice then in Maryampol
before, during & after WWI in oil refineries. I have documents issued in
1916 and 1918, listing his occupation as "destylator" or "destillateur".
In
Gorlice he managed a refinery owned by someone named Alexandrowitz, &
lived
at the refinery just outside of town. Does anyone know anything about this
refinery? Both documents mention "Raffinerie Graf Skrzynski" but the 1916
doc. was stamped in Gorlice & the 1918 was stamped in Drohobycz. I would
be
grateful for any information.

Chana,

If you enter name ALEKSANDROWICZ into 1891 Galicia Business Directory
compiled by Phyllis Kramer at:

http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/galicia1891.htm

you will see that back in 1891 Jakob ALEKSANDROWICZ was listed as the owner
of the petroleum refinery in Gorlice.

In 1929 Poland Business Directory, Erwin ALEKSANDROWICZ is listed as the
lawyer.
Owners of the petroleum businesses in Gorlice were during this part of the
interwar period were:
FUHRER,
HERBSTMAN,
GLEICHER,
EHRENBERG and
HOLLANDER

Probably by the end of 20's ownership of the Gorlice refinery has changed
hands.

And again , if you enter name SKRZYNSKI into 1891 Galicia Business Directory
database it will show that
Adam Ritter von SKRZYNSKI was the owner of hydrocarbon products refinery in
Krakow and in Biecz which is near Gorlice.
