According to new information my Vaikhansky ancestors came during the early
19th century >from Mongolia and participated in the defense of Dvinsk >from
the Napoleonic invasion.
Apparently they were brought >from Mongolia by Tsar Alexander I around 1812
to maintain forts built (Creposts) along the western border in Bbreusk and
in Dvinsk. They were very brave soldiers, but after the war left the army,
married local Jewish women and settled in Dvinsk.
I would like to know if anyone heard about this type of immigration and
settlement in Dvinsk?
Thanks and Regards,
Dror Vaikhansky (Voikhansky)
