A book of interest to those with roots in Galicia
has been reissued.

"I Rest My Case" is set in the towns around Mark Verstandig's
shtetl of Mielec (near Kolbuszowa and Rzeszow) and in the
city of Cracow, with descriptions of several other towns across Galicia.
His story spans the interwar years, the Holocaust and postwar
Displaced Persons Camps.

Those of us who try to comprehend the lives of our relatives
in Galicia will gain additional understanding >from Mr. Verstandig's
very readable vignettes and anecdotes as he touches on such topics as his
religious and secular education, the differences in attitudes toward
military service by Jews of varying social stratas, preparation for
marriages and the effects of assimilation and Zionism.

Many Galitzianers--Mr. Verstandig's relatives, friends, acquaintances
and religious figures are named in the story. Some of the names mentioned

Mr. Verstandig died in Australia in 2002.
