Lithuania SIG #Lithuania Hebrew names for women #lithuania

Theo Travis <travis@...>

In my experience women didn't need Hebrew names - a Yiddish name would do.
In my family, the women were given "Jewish" names, which in our case, was
Yiddish. That went for my grandmothers on both sides and my mother, and even
my sisters and I have only Yiddish names (don't ask me why my parents didn't
give us Hebrew names). One grandmother was >from a Hassidic family in
Bukovina. I was even named in an Orthodox shul with a Yiddish name only. So
maybe if women had a name that was already biblical, that's what they used
as their Hebrew name, or they had a Yiddish name instead.
