I am researching WOLFSHAUT (and spelling variations that include
WOLFSHAUT, WOOLFSHOUT, WOLFSHANT, WOLFSHONT, WOLFSONT, and WOLSFAUT)
everywhere but especially Galician lines >from Sasov, Zlutchif,
Bialykamin, and Przemysl to NYC.
Some of the WOLFSHAUT families have abbreviated their name to WOLF,
WOLFS, and WOLFSON. Surnames that have appeared in Galician WOLFSHAUT
marriages or otherwise in the vicinity of Galician WOLFSHAUTs and their
near descendants in the records include BAUMANN, BLAUSTEIN/BLAUSZTEIN,
BOMZE/BOMZER/BOMSER/BOMSE, BR?NNER, BUCHSBAUM/BUXBAUNN, DEUTSCH, DINKES,
EHRENPREIS/EHRENPREISS, FRIEDMANN, FROMMER, GOLDENSTERN, GREENHILL,
HALPERN, HIRSCH, KLEIN/KLEINER, KRANZ/KRANS, KURZ, LANDAU/LANDES,
LEBENSFELD, MANDELBAUM, PARNES/PARNESS, PEPEL/PSSEL/PESSEL, SPRINGER,
STRAMER, TENNEN/TENENBAUM, TREIBER, WEICH, WEIGLER, WURM, and ZIPPER.
There's a Romanian line of WOLFSHAUTs as well; we are trying to
determine whether they are related to the Galician WOLFSHAUTs. The
Galician WOLFSHAUT/WOLFSONTs are my direct line; I have been trying to
connect to the other groups. I have more information about some of
these surnames than others.
I have, to share, a list of people with the WOLFSHAUT surname and
similar ones (WOLFSHAUPT, WOLFSHENT, WOLFSHANK, WOLFSHOOD, WOLFSHON,
WOLFSHITZ, WOLFZAHN) who came through Ellis Island, arriving in the
years 1904-1921. I have some WOLFSHAUT names >from the 1929 Przemysl
business directory. I have a list of WOLFSHAUTs (plus two WOLFs and a
WOLFSHOTH) >from the Sasov B/D indices for the late 1800s (incomplete,
but still useful) and a few JOWBR burial listings. I have some census
images, SS-5s/SSAs, and NY naturalization information for some of these
lines. There are mentions in late 1800s/1900sLondon records of a
WOLFSHINTS and a WOOLFSHOUT >from Austria (possibly Galicia) as well as
If you are a member of any of these families, or know more about any of
them, please contact me privately. I would be happy to share my
information and would love to find new cousins.
