Congregation
Travel To and Research in Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus
Guest Speaker: Howard Margol
Sunday, March 11th 1:00 pm
BETH SHOLOM Congregation, Potomac, MD
Join Howard Margol, President of the International Association of Jewish
Genealogical Societies (IAJGS), as he shares his experience visiting
archives in Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus. This special JGSGW program
will focus on archival records that are different and unusual rather
than the standard revision lists and vital records. Howard will
emphasize that genealogy is more than just names, dates, and places and
will talk about records that give you a "picture" of how your ancestors
lived. The archives are full of "unusual" records but we never think to
ask for them.
Howard has traveled to Lithuania and Latvia seven times and led groups
of genealogists in search of their Jewish roots. Last year, three
survivors >from Lithuania were in Howard's group and were returning to
Lithuania for the first time since the end of World War II. Howard will
tell about their unique experiences.Howard is leading another group trip to Lithuania in June with the schedule allowing for arrival in London in time for the International Conference.
Howard lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Both of his parents were born in
Lithuania and Howard has traced his family back to 1747.
