I agree with Tamar's comment that Hebrew names were given more
to sons than to daughters. Since only sons were going to be
called to the Torah, girls didn't need them, right ? When my
father, Yehudah Leib ( Leible) came to the U.S. in 1920 >from
Poland, he left behind two brothers, Yakov ( Yankel) and Menachem,
and his father, Aron. His sisters were Guta Laye and Zlate Riva,
and his mother was Chana Malke, Yiddish names with the influence
of Hebrew in Laye ( Leah) and Malke.
