BELZ
(District Sokal)
The most famous of all the shtetls, the home of 2,104 Jewish souls
No separate Jewish records found in Polish or Lwow Archives.
JRI-P AGAD database lists 242 entries for Belz, mostly under Sokal, Mosty
Wielkie, Rawa Ruska, and Lwow. It appears that Sokal as the Belz' district
town was probably the main depository.

BRZOZDOWCE,
(District Bobrka), Shtetl of 440 Jews (out of 2,420 residents).
Jewish records for Brzozdowce are not listed in Polish Archives.
Logically, records should be within the Bobrka district documentation but
they are not shown there in JRI-P AGAD database. On the other hand, current
JRI-Poland AGAD Project database lists 66 entries of Jews >from Brzozdowce
mostly in Boryslaw and Drohobycz.

CHYROW,
(Distirct Stary Sambor), shtetl of 991 Jews (out of 2,654).
No Jewish records are listed in Poland Archives,
Again, logically, records should be within Stary Sambor, but JRI-P database
lists 482 entries for Chyrow Jews in Lwow, Sambor, Przemysl, Boryslaw and
Drohobycz. No Chyrow records are listed in Stary Sambor.

CIESZANOW
(District Lubaczow), shtetl of 939 Jews (out of 2,282 residents)
Town is now located in Poland.
Records should be within Lubaczow, but the location of Lubaczow records are
not identified either (see entry for Lubaczow).
Jewish records are not listed in Polish Archives. JRI-P lists 178 entries
for Cieszanow Jews mostly in Lwow, some in Rawa Ruska and in Sieniawa

JANOW
(District Grodek Jagiellonski), shtetl of 490 Jews (out of 1,808)
Beside the death records already released to AGAD Project, there are also
birth record for Janow in Warsaw Archives for years 1898-1942 and the death
records for years till 1939 but since they are mixed up in the registry
books with a newer records, they will be not released to AGAD. Archived
marriage records for Janow are all post WWI

There are 27 entries under Lwow records and 60 entries under Kamionka
Strumilowa (Tarnopol Province) in AGAD Project database

KRUKIENICE - records are not lost
(District Mosciska), shtetl of 264 Jews (out of the total 1,689 resident)

large amount of entries for Krukienice (237) are listed in AGAD Project
database under Mosciska records

KRYSTONOPOL - records are not lost
District Sokal), shtetl of 2,086 Jewish souls (74% of total residents)
533 entries for Krystonopol are listed in AGAD Project database, mostly
within Lwow, Sokal, Rawa Ruska and Mosty Wielkie.
A bit strange spread - all the birth records for Krystonopol were registered
in Mosty Wielkie and Rawa Ruska but marriages and death are all in Sokal.

KUKIZOW
(District Lwow), only 6 % of this shtetl (out of 742) were Jewish.

No Jewish records are confirmed to be listed in Przemysl Archives in Poland.
JRI-P lists 232 records of Cieszanow Jews registered mostly in Lwow, some in
Rawa Ruska and Sieniawa.

Several record shown in Polish Archives are referring to Nowe Miasto in

There are no entries for the shtetl in AGAD Project database. Since Nowe
miasto was located in Dobromil district, I assume that NM records are kept
with Dobromil records in Rzeszow Archives. Please refer to our previous
discussions on the subject of missing Dobromil records at GG discussion
group archives.
